This Easy Mongolian Beef Recipe is one of my favourite Chinese style dishes to make at home. The beef is tender and the sauce is mild, which makes it perfect for the whole family. Did I mention it is easy to make and it will take you under 20 minutes to put together? So good!
A lot of the Mongolian Beef Recipes don't include vegetables, so feel free to leave them out. I like to add them as it breaks up the beef flavours and makes the meal go further. You could always serve some Asian greens on the side too.
Ingredients
Mongolian Beef
- carrot
- capsicum
- cabbage
- olive oil
- beef steak
- cornflour
- shallots, thinly sliced
Sauce
- fresh ginger, minced
- garlic cloves, minced
- brown sugar
- water
- soy sauce
- sriracha sauce
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Instructions
In a bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients and set aside.
In a bowl, mix together the beef slices and cornflour.
In a large fry pan on a medium/high heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the garlic, ginger, carrot, cabbage, and capsicum. Cook for around 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Using the same fry pan, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the beef and cook for about 2 minutes per side to create a crispy outer coating.
If the pan seems dry, just add a little more oil and cook in batches.
Add the vegetables back into the pan along with the shallots. Add the sauce and stir. Turn down to a medium/low heat and simmer until the sauce thickens (about 3 minutes).
If beef isn't your thing, give this recipe a go using some sliced chicken breast instead!
Storage
Fridge: If you have leftover Mongolian beef, allow it to cool down to room temperature before storing. Transfer the beef and sauce to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Freezer: If you want to store Mongolian beef for a longer period, you can freeze it. Allow it to cool down completely before transferring it to a freezer-safe container. Mongolian beef can be frozen for up to 3-4 months.
Top tip
Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef. Cook it in batches as this allows you to get that crispy outer layer on the beef.
