Trust me when I say these are the best ever homemade beef burgers you will make! I have been playing around with this beef burger recipe for years, and it's well and truly tried and tested.

What type of meat to use?
The key of a good burger is the fat content of beef mince. You want it to have enough fat that the burgers are full of flavour, juicy and not dry. I like to use beef mince which is 80% beef and 20% fat (Woolworth's regular mince). Don't use lean mince in any burger recipe, or you will have a dry burger that has a lot less flavour than a fatter content beef mince. You will need 1 kg of mince which will make around 8 burger patties, depending on their size.
How to season your beef burgers?
You can make this seasoning up in bulk and store it in your pantry and use it each time you make burgers! Just add 5 ½ teaspoons of seasoning to each 1 kg mix of mince.
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cracked pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne powder
My favourite beef burger toppings!
- Burger cheese (Woolworths sells this)
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Red onion
- Pickles (I like these ones the best)
- Sauces - tomato sauce, mustard, BBQ sauce or the famous Woolworths burger sauce.
How to make the beef burger patties:
You don't want to "bulk up" these burger patties by adding bread crumbs etc, and they don't need any binders like eggs. Divide the mince into 8 equal round meat pattie sizes of around 1cm thick. You will want to make the patties a little larger than your bun size as they will shrink down once cooked. Push a thumb mark down in the middle of each raw patty to stop it from puffing up when cooking.
You will want to cook the burgers for about 4-5 minutes on each side until the meat has fully cooked. Add the cheese in the last minute of cooking to make the perfect burger melted cheese!
What sides to serve with beef burgers?
- Potato salad
- Air fried frozen fries (so quick in the air fryer)
- Pasta salad
- Homemade sweet potato fries ( you can make these in the air fryer)
