Easy Chocolate Cake

This chocolate cake is super easy to make, which makes it perfect for birthdays or celebrations! I like to make a batch in a square slice tin to slice up and freeze for school lunches.


  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 3/4 cups caster sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 cups icing sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 18o°C and spray a cake tin with non-stick spray.
  2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
  3. Pour the prepared batter into cake tin and bake for around 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Once the cake is cool, mix all icing ingredients together and spread over cake.
