Learn how to make my homemade Pork Banh Mi the easy way with my recipe. If you haven't tried a Banh Mi yet, it's basically a Vietnamese sandwich with pork and fresh ingredients made on a fresh crusty roll.

There's probably 100 different ways to make a Banh mi roll, but this is how I make mine the easy way. You can pickle the vegetables, but I prefer just to add them fresh to the roll. I will add the instructions to pickle the vegetables below if you wish to do so.
Ingredients
Pork
- Pork Fillets (if you want to make it even easier, you can buy ready-made pork from the supermarket)
- Hoisin sauce
- Chinese five spice
- salt and pepper
Rolls
- Crusty rolls (Coles sell made Banh Mi rolls for $3.35)
- Pate (you can get this from the supermarket)
- Mayonnaise
- Cucumber sliced
- Shredded carrot
- Fresh coriander
- Shredded daikon radish (feel free to skip this ingredient)
- Maggi Seasoning
- Fresh sliced red chilli (optional)
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 180°c. Place pork fillet in a baking tray and cover with the hoisin sauce, five spice and salt and pepper.
Step 2
Cover with foil and place in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove foil and place back in the oven for a further 10 minutes to brown.
Step 3
Thinly slice the pork and put back into the baking tray and spoon over some of the sauce that's in the tray.
Step 4
Prepare the Banh Mi rolls by cutting each roll open. Spread a good layer of Pate on the bottom of the roll and a good layer of mayonnaise on the top of the roll.
Step 5
Add the sliced pork, carrot, daikon radish, cucumber, coriander and optional chilli to each of the rolls.
Step 6
Add some Maggi seasoning on to each roll.
Step 7
You can warm the bun (with fillings) in the microwave for 20 seconds if you would like the bun a bit softer.
Step 8
Serve!

Pickled Vegetables
If you would like to pickle the vegetables, follow these steps:
- In a bowl, mix the carrot and daikon radish.
- In a separate bowl, combine the ½ cup rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Pour the vinegar mixture over the vegetables, tossing to coat. Let them sit for at least 30 minutes to pickle.
