Ingredients

Pork

  • 700 gram pork Fillet if you want to make it even easier, you can buy ready-made pork from the supermarket
  • ½ cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chinese five spice
  • ½ teaspoon salt and pepper

Rolls

  • 4 crusty rolls Coles sell made Banh Mi rolls for $3.35
  • 1 pate you can get this from the supermarket
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cucumber sliced
  • 1 cup shredded carrot
  • fresh coriander
  • 1 shredded daikon radish Feel free to skip this. It adds to the flavour but not everyone likes the taste.
  • Maggi Seasoning add to taste
  • 1 fresh sliced red chilli optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 180°c. Place pork fillet in a baking tray and cover with the hoisin sauce, five spice and salt and pepper.
  • Cover with foil and place in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove foil and place back in the oven for a further 10 minutes to brown.
  • Thinly slice the pork and put back into the baking tray and spoon over some of the sauce that's in the tray. Prepare the Banh Mi rolls by cutting each roll open. Spread a good layer of Pate on the bottom of the roll and a good layer of mayonnaise on the top of the roll.
  • Add the sliced pork, carrot, daikon radish, cucumber, coriander and optional chilli to each of the rolls.
  • Add some Maggi seasoning on to each roll.
  • You can warm the bun (with fillings) in the microwave for 20 seconds if you would like the bun a bit softer.
  • Serve!

Notes

Pickled Vegetables

If you would like to pickle the vegetables, follow these steps:

  • In a bowl, mix the carrot and daikon radish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the ½ cup rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Pour the vinegar mixture over the vegetables, tossing to coat. Let them sit for at least 30 minutes to pickle.
