I know when you search Las Vegas with kids, you will get mixed messages if you should take your children to Vegas or skip it altogether, but for us, there is so much to do in Las Vegas with kids, it's a must-visit if you are travelling all the way from Australia.
We have been to Las Vegas with kids a few times now, and we still haven't scratched the surface of what it has to offer! The first time we went there, we stayed 3 nights, and the second time we stayed 5 nights (both times, it was freezing). We drove from Los Angeles both times in our hire car as we wanted to explore a little on the way and the way back, which you miss out on when flying.
One - Circus Circus Adventuredome
We loved the adventuredome. Now, it's down the dodgy end of the strip, and I would advise you don't stay down there, but a day trip is fine. It's an indoor theme park inside the Circus Circus Resort and Casino, but it's fantastic! We purchased an unlimited armband so the kids could go on everything and anything they wanted. While you are here, head out of the adventuredome and upstairs to the Midway area, and you will find free circus acts every 30 minutes, which is a fantastic way to finish off the day.
Two - Day Trip to the Grand Canyon
We searched for weeks for the best option to see the Grand Canyon with kids without having to drive 10+ hours. We decided on taking a light plane with Papillon to the South Rim, which included lunch and a bus to take you to all of the major sights, with a return flight home. I thought this was fantastic and a once in a lifetime opportunity for our family. We paid around $210 USD per person, but it was worth every cent!
Three - M&M World & the Coca-Cola Store
M&M world in Las Vegas has 4 levels of all things M&M's! Now it's not cheap, but it is definitely a novelty to visit. You will find every single M&M flavour possible and a giant wall with self-serve M&M's charged by the weight.
The Coco-Cola store has an option to purchase a tasting plate to try 16 different flavoured coke drinks from around the world. You will also find a bunch of souvenirs in the store.
Four - Experience the all you can eat buffets
The Buffets in Las Vegas are something else and nothing like our buffets here in Australia. Our favourite one to visit was the Rio, but I have read that it has since closed. Definitely check out some deals online to find the best priced and rated one at the time of travel. I know some offer daily passes, which we purchased for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a fantastic price, and it also allows you to try a few different ones. My kids still talk about how amazing and huge the buffets were.
Five - Explore some of the hotels and resorts on the strip
We found the top end and mid strip had the best to offer kids, and you could spend all day exploring what is in the casinos and resorts for free! Excalibur is made for kids, New York New York has a lot to look at and don't forget the flamingos at the wildlife habitat in the Flamino resort (it's free). I wouldn't recommend paying for the shark reef at Mandalay Bay or the secret garden at the Mirage. I thought both of them were a waste of money, small and not worth paying for when we have better to offer at home.
