Easy Baked Spaghetti

Baked spaghetti is a hearty and comforting dish perfect for a family dinner or a large gathering. It consists of cooked spaghetti pasta with mince and tomato-based sauce, topped with a creamy white sauce and a cheesy layer on top.

Ingredients
  

  • 500 grams spaghetti pasta
  • 1 brown onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 500 grams beef mince feel free to double this to 1kg
  • 2 jars spaghetti sauce you can make your own homemade sauce too
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons plain flour
  • 2 cups thickened cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 cup grated cheese

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 180°c.
  • Cook the spaghetti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Start making your white sauce. Strain and set aside.
  • On a stovetop, using a pan or pot over medium heat, create a roux by melting butter and mixing in the flour until thick (It will look like a paste).
  • Slowly add the thickened cream and whisk until smooth and thick. Add the garlic, onion powder and salt and pepper and whisk.
  • In a separate large frying pan, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until soft and translucent.
  • Add the beef mince and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Add the spaghetti sauce to the pan and stir to combine. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Add the drained cooked spaghetti to the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Pour the creamy sauce over the spaghetti and add the mince tomato sauce layer. Top with cheese.
  • Bake in the oven for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve the baked spaghetti hot and enjoy!
