Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 500 grams beef mince
  • 500 grams pork mince
  • 1 egg
  • 1 brown onion very finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic crushed or minced
  • 125 grams breadcrumbs 1 ¼ cup
  • 5 tablespoons milk milk of choice
  • salt and pepper

Sauce

  • 80 grams butter ⅓ cup
  • 80 grams plain flour ⅓ cup
  • 600 mls beef stock 2 ½ cups
  • 300 mls thickened cream 1 ⅓ cups
  • 4 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard

Instructions

Swedish Meatballs

  • Pre heat oven to 200°c
  • Combine all meatball ingredients together in a large bowl. Roll into tablespoon sized balls and place on a lined baking tray.
  • Place meatballs in the oven on 200°c for around 25 minutes or until cooked through. You will need to turn these a few times so that they cook and brown evenly.

Sauce

  • In a saucepan over a medium heat, melt butter until it starts to simmer (starts bubbling), and whisk in plain flour.
  • Slowly add beef stock while whisking until sauce thickens. Add Cream, soy sauce, mustard and simmer for 5 minutes until thick and creamy.
  • Once meatballs have cooked, top them in the sauce and serve with greens, mashed potatoes.
