Nutella Baked Doughnuts

The Nutella baked doughnut recipe is finally HERE and I promise you, it is worth the wait! I managed to grab a few jars of Nutella marked down at Kmart for only $3, so I thought I’d create some Nutella based recipes.

I used a doughnut shaped baking tray from Big W to make these, but I know others have had success using the doughnut maker from Kmart which I think is around $10 – $15.

  • 1 1/4 cups plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup raw sugar
  • 1/3 cup Nutella
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 4  tablespoons Nutella
  • 4 – 6  teaspoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings – sprinkles, chopped nuts or shaved chocolate

  1. Preheat oven to 160ºc and grease a doughnut tray well with spray oil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, whip together milk, sugar, egg, vanilla, Nutella, and butter until combined.
  4. Using a rubber spatula mix wet and dry ingredients together until just combined. Don’t overmix!
  5. Using a piping bag or a ziplock bag with the corner cut off, pipe the batter into each doughnut hole about 3/4 full. They will rise a bit.
  6. Bake for around  7 – 10 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool 5 minutes and transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
  8. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together icing ingredients and spread over each doughnut.
  9. Top with sprinkles or chopped nuts and allow icing to set at room temperature.
  10. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
