MY FUR BABIES – WHAT I’VE LEARNT BEING A DOG OWNER

Brought to you by Nuffnang and Bravecto

Today, thanks to Bravecto, the long-lasting paralysis tick and flea treatment for dogs, I want to share with you what I have learnt since being a dog owner! We’ve had a beautiful Labrador for 9 years; she has a gentle, loving temperament and has literally grown up with our children. So, we felt very confident, one year ago, when we decided to add a blue Amstaff pup to our motley crew.

Did you know, having a dog as a pet will have a huge impact of the emotional wellbeing of your children? A recent survey amongst Aussie dog owners by Bravecto survey revealed 85 per cent feel happy, 67 per cent feel loved, and 64 per cent feel safe with their four-legged friend nearby.

It’s not just young children that benefit; 75 per cent of children aged 6 to 12 years are more likely to feel loved and 63 per cent of those aged 13 to 18 years are more likely to feel content.

Say hello to Koko my cheeky amstaff!

I’m not sure what we were thinking switching dog breeds – Koko has so much more energy than our Labrador ever did! She is SO naughty (nothing is safe), I’ve lost a few outdoor lounges, a dog house, so much washing off the line, hose fittings and completely sacrificed our garden to her whirlwind of utter destruction! But we wouldn’t change her for the world! I’ve been told this is a Staffy trait they don’t outgrow it any time soon either (crying inside!). She is so loving and sweet though and I swear at times she thinks she’s a teeny, tiny fluffy cute little lap dog in her own mind. Ha!

Say hello to Zoe, my lazy chill girl!

Zoe has such a gentle, maternal temperament and has always been so wonderful with our kids. She follows the children around the yard and sits right beside them while they play. If the kids are in the pool, she is right there laying on the edge watching them, being careful not to get wet, because she absolutely hates the water! But she is always hovering nearby, with an ever watchful eye over our busy brood.

5 things I’ve learnt since becoming a dog owner

All the hard work and responsibility of adding a dog to the family is ultimately so rewarding! They will enrich your life in ways you never imagined, while benefiting your family at the same time. They will excitedly greet you upon your return home, you will instantly have a very reliable and furry security system, a truly loving and ever-present companion and they ask for nothing in return, but love alone.

A healthy dog is a happy dog and this is where you need to treat paralysis ticks and fleas! As a dog owner, I’m excited to say Bravecto is the only oral chew to deliver 3 months flea and paralysis tick protection for dogs in a single dose. It’s a tasty oral chew that dogs love, it won’t wash or rub off, and there’s no mess to administer or liquids to spill or transfer.

Bravecto is available in 5 different kg packs depending on weight of dogs.

These are:

  • 2 – 4.5kg pack
  • 4.5 – 10kg pack
  • 10 – 20kg pack
  • 20 – 40kg pack
  • 40 – 56kg pack

Dogs have a lot of energy and require regular walks. Okay, so I know this might seem silly to add, as everyone knows dogs need to be walked, but I truly underestimated just how much! If we don’t walk our Staffy twice a day, she will start eating and chewing everything in sight. The biggest positive to this, is that we all get our daily dose of exercise too!

They truly become a family member! My dogs are literally like one of my kids. They get treats, love and just as much affection as my children do. Not only will they become a part of your family but they will become your child’s very best friend and most loyal companion too!

They are so great for kids! The bond between our dogs and our children is nothing short of amazing. The kids take turns feeding them and filling up their water, they love brushing and bathing them and they give them the attention they so crave, as well as some seriously fun play time! As a Mum, it is so gratifying to see how my children have learnt to navigate the world of ‘dog owner responsibilities’, simply by loving and caring so deeply for our precious pets.

I could go on all day about the things I’ve learnt since owning my two fur babies, but I’m going to save the rest for another blog post! In the meantime, if you’re keen to WIN one of 10 Bravecto packs for your dog, check out my Instagram post HERE!

  • What gorgeous photos! I grew up with dogs but we don’t have the room for one at the moment. They really do become part of the family and need special care. Lovely post thank you Cheree.
