I found this cute idea on Pinterest as a countdown to visit Disneyland and I thought it would be perfect for the countdown to Christmas. Instead of giving my children a treat each morning, I thought it would be nice to write a positive quote on the inside of each chain link to start the day. Again, I stuck with the Disney Junior Characters, following on from my previous Disney Junior DIY Confetti Christmas Baubles post. We created 3 characters including Doc McStuffins and Minnie Mouse.

Some of the daily positive quotes I used inside each loop:

  • Have fun today
  • Be kind today
  • Be happy today
  • Smile
  • You’re smart
  • You’re so clever
  • I like your attitude
  • Kind words build kind people
  • Patience is a virtue
  • Treat others how you like to be treated
  • You’re loved

I love this craft idea. As busy parents, we can easily forget to praise, encourage or speak positive words to our children each day. Not only are you creating memories and bonding while making the chains, but you’re also giving your child a positive quote to start the day. This activity takes about 30 minutes with an adult helping. I cut all the rectangle shapes, created the top part, wrote the quotes on the inside and the little ones stuck them all together.

Activity: Disney Junior Inspired Paper Advent Chains

Time: 30 minutes

What you need:

  • Cardboard or coloured paper to match your favourite Disney Junior character. I got some cardboard in a pack from Kmart with just about every colour for around $8.
  • Pen
  • Stapler or tape

Directions:

  1. Cut even rectangle strips for each loop. The amount required will depend on how many days out from Christmas you want to start.
  2. Create the top character piece. You can view a few different styles to give you some ideas.
  3. If you are writing quotes on the insides of the loops, do this before you tape them together.
  4. Write the daily numbers on the inside or outside of each loop.
  5. Start joining all the loops together until they are all connected.
  6. Attach it to the wall.
  7. Cut or rip a loop off each day to the lead up to Christmas and read the positive quote inside with your child.
