This post is a collaboration with Continental
Continental is helping families create meals full of natural flavours and ingredients using their NEW Naturally Tasty Range. So today, I wanted to share some tips to get your kids cooking with you! If you follow my blog, you would already know that I LOVE cooking! It’s something I was lucky enough to learn at a very young age and in later years, I went on to become a qualified Chef. Basic cooking skills and a genuine interest and love for creating healthy, wholesome dishes, is something I desperately want to pass on to my own children.
So, here are some of my tips to get cooking with your kids!
Cook an easy meal!
There is no need to get all fancy folks! Just find a simple and easy dish to cook together! The Naturally Tasty Continental bases are perfect! Filled to the brim with natural identifiable ingredients that are common at home, blend of veg herbs and spices as seen on the clean labels means you can enjoy a delicious, wholesome dinner with absolutely no fuss.
- Spaghetti Bolognese (my favourite)
- Chilli Con Carne
- Beef Stew
- Chicken Curry
Start with the recipe base, collect the “just add” ingredients that are listed on the front of the pouch and create the meal using the directions, it really is as simple as that!
Relax and be patient
This is the perfect chance to step back and allow the children to do all the work! It may be a touch messier and it will certainly take a little longer, but it’s important for you to relax, be patient and try to enjoy each step with the kids.
Allow the kids to help
You may be surprised what kids can do when you let them to take control. Give your child or children the opportunity to take full responsibility for the preparation and cooking process, obviously with some guidance from you! They will pick up basic cooking skills so quickly it will blow your mind! I love watching my children gain confidence each week as we cook a different meal.
Expect some mess
Sometimes it just can’t be avoided, so expect a little mess! I give each of my children ‘clean up chores’ in the kitchen, while we’re waiting for the meal to finish cooking. Strangely, they seem to enjoy it! And this way, they’re also learning the process of cleaning up after themselves as they cook up a storm!
Enjoy the time spent with your children
As a busy Mum, spending quality time with my children is getting harder now that they are all in school and daycare. Cooking simple, healthy dishes together, guarantees me some seriously fun bonding time AND I so proudly, get to watch them actively learning to create healthy and delicious dinners for the entire family! The Continental Naturally Tasty range just makes this entire process so easy for Mums and Dads to pull off after a long day!
I would love to hear any tips, fun stories or advice you might have about cooking with your kids in the kitchen!
